Remember the good old days when coach told you to “walk it off!” ?  Even with modern medicine and science there is little that has changed over the years regarding how to treat a sprained ankle.  Traditional treatment is R.I.C.E – Rest Ice Compression and Elevation.  Although this famous acronym is still heeded by many doctors and sports specialists, there is a lot more you can do to speed up recovery time and strengthen your joint in order to prevent future injury.  I am not a doctor, but I do know a bit about how to treat a sprained ankle! Have sprained my ankle a few times myself I’ve consolidated a lot of knowledge I collected from the internet, personal doctors, and physical therapists to create this site. Take a look around and find out how to treat your sprained ankle.

There are a lot of things you must consider when treating your sprained ankle.  The main one is – can you treat it at home.  A lot of people don’t trust doctors.  I’m one of them.  I know there’s no logic in it, but if you’re like me, going to the doctor is like admitting defeat.  It’s also a pain in the neck to set an apointment, drive down there, wait in line, and often get a diagnosis that you probably could have done at home.  However, even with something as simple as a sprained ankle, you may need the help of a doctor to diagnose it properly.  Injuries are almost never black and white – this or that – but a combination of problems and misdiagnosis could result in more problems down the road.  You never know.

For those of you who have sprained an ankle before, you’ll know what feels serious and what doesn’t.  You might be able to take care of your swelling and scar tissue in the comfort of your own home.  Most of the time you can.  That’s what this site is for.  With the proper information and resources you can treat your ankle at home and don’t have to deal with the hassle of going to the doctor or finding a physical therapist.  Speaking of physical therapy, you’ll find a few links around my site for HEM ankle rehab.  It’s the program I use now to take care of my ankle.  Well, since I used it the first time I haven’t sprained my ankle, but I still use the ideas and exercises to strengthen my ankles and prevent injuries (much better than treatting them). If you’ve got 20 bucks you might want to check it out.  Twenty dollars goes a long way when it means that you can get on your feet in days instead of weeks!
